Professor Arupjyoti Choudhury started his carrier as Assistant Professor in the Post Graduate Department of Political Science, Cotton College which was designated as the Centre of Excellence. He continued his teaching carrier till 2012 when he joined Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University as the Dean (Academic). He became the Registrar of the University in 2018. In October 2023 he was appointed as Professor in Public Administration in the Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU). In February, 2024 he became the Vice-Chancellor of Madhabdev University in Lakhimpur.

His broad areas of interests lie in International Politics, Human Rights, Society and Politics in India and North-Eastern Studies. As part of his research interest he has written a book on Human Rights and Emergency in India. It reflected on the Polity in India in particular reference to the role of the Judiciary in Emergency periods in Assam in the protection of the Human Rights of the people. His interest in North-Eastern Studies has resulted in the publication of an edited volume namely The Marginal Frontier that incorporated essays on History, Geography, Geo-Politics and State Policy in this part of the country. He visited USA as a part of an academic project on the American Foreign Policy in South Asia that was conducted in the University of Texas and Chicago as well as in the US Military Headquarter Pentagon and House of Representatives. On the basis of his travel and academic experience of this project he published a book namely Yugasandhit America (America in Crossroads).

He loves to spend his time by reading books particularly of History and novels in Assamese, Bangla and English and to be with the students interacting with the young minds trying to understand their concerns and challenges in life.
